Balamani is the adaptation of Peythozhiyum Neram', a novel by Mayadevi appeared on a popular Malayalam weekly. Balamani is directed by Girish Konni and script is written by Murali Vallandu The story of Balamani revolves around Sumangala of Azhakathu family, her sons Aravind, Anand and Anathu and her three daughters-in-laws- Balamani, Abhirami and Mythili. Actress Vinaya Prasad plays the role of Sumangala. Actress Devika Nambiar gave life to the character Balamani. Adityan Jayan, Giridhar , Jayakrishan, Anlanteena, Souparnika Vijay were the main actors of this serial.
Balamani was one of the most popular drama series on Mazhavil Manorama till the death of the character Sumangala. Then the serial lost its focus and deviated from the main story and characters resulting in lowering of viewership. Now the serial will be replaced by a new serial Mayamohini
